Listen up all you pumping mamas!!

Lucy Lawless Breastfeeding

It has long been understood that providing our babies with breast milk is good for our babies, but thanks to a study published by Pediatrics in March of this year, we milk producing mothers have even more reason to flaunt that nursing bra and be a proud breast pumping momma!  Several German doctors affiliated with the Institute of Legal Medicine and various accredited universities decided to embark on a study that analyzed what sort of connection there may be between nursing your baby and the little one’s shot at succumbing to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
These savvy researchers studied over 300 SIDS cases and almost 1000 non-SIDS cases, resulting in a fabulous discovery. They proved that only 49.6% of the mothers of SIDS babies breast-fed their children…but wait, more than 82% of the surviving infants received mother’s milk!
What does this mean to us moms?  It tells us that offering baby our milk, whether straight from the source, or our breast pump, reduces their risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome dramatically!  After one month of nursing, studies showed that the chances of SIDS occurring decreased by half!  This is incredibly awesome, but we can’t stop there ladies.  Keep the milk flowing…the experts from this study recommend offering it to baby for at least the first six months of life.  So be proud nursing mothers…grab that breast pump… and keep your kids healthy!
